“The Comfort of Control” is visualizing fictional interfaces, applied to a human body as a platform. The User is searching for a partnership with an intelligent machine. Digital interactions grow and develop organically, coexisting with the user/co-owner of the body. In this environement, effort and error of a human user are seen as an aesthetic standpoint and a valuable asset.

Departing from 16th century maps, this project loosely maps colonial history focusing on islands, routes and vessels. From a retrospective and speculative view connecting Christopher Columbus to Elon Musk, landmasses are rendered as stages in a seemingly predetermined process. Sea and space are not necessarily the elements which divide islands and celestial bodies. Likewise, routes are neither bridges or connections, its an archipelago of narratives.

Research on vernacular & handwritten typography: 10 typefaces, created using paper, scissors & glue, charcoal, ink & eyeliner. Each based on my fascination with a found sample or a tool, made without any preliminary sketching - my approach was to understand how the letters are made and positioned by recreating a sample with a simple toolkit.

Gone phishing is a documentary film about my stolen iPhone and the following fishing attempts: In August 2014 my iPhone has been stolen. In January 2015 I started receiving emails, titled “Dear Karina Zavidova, your lost iPhone has been found!”, which turned out to be phishing scam. Apparently, many people got robbed the same way. These phishing attempts continued for couple of months, including the change of strategy and a variety of fake baits. I tried to track where my iPhone has ended up, but realized that it will forever remain a mystery. For this project I traveled to the Phishing land, where the Fake and the Real are masquerading as each other, and documented my journey.

Will bookprinting be dead in 10 years? How the world will look like, when publications will go extinct? These quiestions made me think of a music industry, which survived a lot of changes of formats and distribution strategies: from outside it looks like it's constantly reinventing itself. This project resulted in a series of podcast-like newspaper issues, each containing an interview: one with an opera singer, another with an electronic musician and a third one with a dj.
